چکیده

A microscopic theory of the mixtures of polymer chains and colloidal particles immersed in a common solvent is developed on the basis of the RIS~I integral equation technique. The obtained general equations enable the calculation of the correlation functions and thermodynamic characteristics of the system at an arbitrary ratio of the components. The the, ory is used for a comprehensive study of interaction of small spherical particles with flexible polymer chains in the regimes of weak and strong adsorption of the macromolecules on the surface of the particles. The temperature and concentration regions characterized by different effect of the polymer on stability of the colloidal dispersion are determined. The corresponding temperature-concentration diagrams of state are constructed.

Erratum to: Prediction of tautomer ratios by embedded-cluster integral equation theory

The "embedded cluster reference interaction site model" (EC-RISM) approach combines statistical-mechanical integral equation theory and quantum-chemical calculations for predicting thermodynamic data for chemical reactions in solution. The electronic structure of the solute is determined self-consistently with the structure of the solvent that is described by 3D RISM integral equation theory. T...

Molecular theory of solvation: Methodology summary and illustrations

Integral equation theory of molecular liquids based on statistical mechanics is quite promising as an essential part of multiscalemethodology for chemical and biomolecular nanosystems in solution. Beginningwith amolecular interaction potential force field, it uses diagrammatic analysis of the solvation free energy to derive integral equations for correlation functions between molecules in solut...

Structure and thermodynamics of nonaqueous solvation by integral equation theory

Electronic structure theory under the influence of apolar solvents suffers from substantial methodical difficulties since in this case the solvent-induced solute polarization originates mainly from specific directional interactions and higher electric multipoles. Continuum solvation models based on the dielectric solvent response such as the PCM approach ignore such interactions and can therefo...

Liquid structure at metal oxide–water interface: accuracy of a three-dimensional RISM methodology

Ž . We calculated the structure of water in contact with the MgO 100 surface by using the three-dimensional reference Ž . interaction site model 3D-RISM integral equation theory. The spatial distributions of water oxygen and hydrogen over the surface unit cell are calculated and discussed. The water density profiles and the orientations obtained are in good agreement with computer simulations f...

Reference interaction site model and optimized perturbation theories of colloidal dumbbells with increasing anisotropy.

We investigate thermodynamic properties of anisotropic colloidal dumbbells in the frameworks provided by the Reference Interaction Site Model (RISM) theory and an Optimized Perturbation Theory (OPT), this latter based on a fourth-order high-temperature perturbative expansion of the free energy, recently generalized to molecular fluids. Our model is constituted by two identical tangent hard sphe...
